Dutch
author : DutchDutch Van Alstin has been writing since he was eight years old when he pounded out short stories on his parents’ old Smith Corona in the basement of their home. Writing has been a passion of his ever since he rolled out his first character at age eight: “Moosie,” a detective with a giant moose head. His imagination and creativity have expanded over the years since he created that giant moose detective, and Dutch has morphed his eclectic experiences into various prose over the years. He won both the 2002 and 2005 SCOP award at his alma mater in Corning, New York. For years he continued to write but lacked the desire to formalize his creativity in contest entries, publishing attempts, etc. Dutch is uncertain when—exactly--he feels he bridged the divide between ‘writing’ and ‘being a writer’ but nonetheless, his passion for the written word has been both therapeutic, and cathartic for him. Dutch self-published Murder in D Block in 2013 but did little to promote his work. Since that time, Dutch has used his decades long experiences in the biker subculture to launch his “Life Behind Bars” Book Series. Demons Rising: The Story of the Wayward Scout, is book number one in that series and is published with Lulu Publishing. Dutch has logged millions of miles of roadway and has been on a motorcycle since the age of nine when his father bought him his first. He grew up in the biker subculture, in and out of clubhouses, both as a member and a citizen. Dutch grew up in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, where he earned his master’s degree from the State University of New York. He now lives in the Tampa Bay area and has a 2009 Softail, a 2004 Sportster, and a 1975 Shovelhead. Dutch is still active in the biker community. View more >>
